{"id":6100,"date":"2018-07-03T21:40:34","date_gmt":"2018-07-04T04:40:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bilgebucket.com\/?p=6100"},"modified":"2019-09-16T12:10:17","modified_gmt":"2019-09-16T19:10:17","slug":"space-cadet-trump-of-the-space-force","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bilgebucket.com\/?p=6100","title":{"rendered":"Space Cadet Trump Of The Space Force"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the more curious things Trump has done lately is to <a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/trump-promises-to-create-military-space-force-1826925192\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">promote a future branch of military in outer space called the Space Force<\/a>. We say curious because Trump doesn&#8217;t give a rat&#8217;s ass about science or space. The only reason he&#8217;s doing this is obvious: more distractions so that the Republican wrecking machine can keep on destroying our government. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestand.org\/2018\/06\/gop-targets-social-security-medicaid-for-cuts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The GOP currently has their sites set on Social Security and Medicare cuts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bilgebucket.com\/?p=5932\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">We&#8217;ve commented before about about space exploration<\/a>. Sure, maintaining satellite safety and cleaning the ever growing field of space debris is important.&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/40942-trump-space-force-reopens-military-debate.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Space.com has an excellent article about whether or not a Space Force and the militarization of space is a good idea or not<\/a>. We believe the exploration of space is perfect for robots, drones and other mechanical and electronic machines. But we also think that humans are not equipped to live in space and these proposals for <em>any country<\/em> to build space stations in orbit around the moon, or colonies on the moon or Mars are a colossal waste of money and a disaster waiting to happen for any nation which chooses to pursue this endeavor. Like we&#8217;ve said before in the link referenced above, the best spaceship possible is planet Earth.<\/p>\n<p>We also think that in Trump&#8217;s obtuse, non-scientific mind, the idea of a Space Force is more like <em>Star Wars<\/em>, <em>Star Trek<\/em>, <em>The Jetsons<\/em> and a dash of <em>The Simpsons<\/em> all mashed together.
